The portraits were made for Savage Tha Beast’s Uzere Boy release in the place named by the record. Photographing in the riverine Niger Delta connects the artist campaign to the landscape and daily visual references behind the album.
The photographic approach
Canoes, the river, a chessboard, doorways and an okada become recurring parts of the portrait language. The sequence follows the available light from warm afternoon into dusk, balancing direct artist portraits with a wider sense of place.
